My mom called while she was on vacation recently and asked me to help her find a nearby yarn store. My task would have been much simpler if I had known about KnitMap, a yarn store finder that’s more than just a map. Using KnitMap you can pinpoint not only the nearest available fiber supplier, but also shops that suit your particular needs whether they be food, friendly service, or even wi-fi.
KnitMap lists shops not just in the US, but shops “anywhere that Google maps will work” including locations in Europe and Asia in addition to Canada, the US, and Australia. Available information includes hours and contact information as well as user-provided ratings and reviews of the shops’ service, selection, and atmosphere. KnitMap will help you plan a tour de tricoter or just pick up a pair of size six needles just about anywhere you might go.

Pretty nice, and I’m sharing this with all my knitting friends, none of them have a personal concierge….YOU are on speed dial! And you are usually on or near a computer. Google 411 is my next choice, but only when I can’t reach you, thanks! xoxomom
Wow, I don’t know what I would do without KnitMap. I can’t imagine being in a strange place and suddenly running out of yarn. No worries, I’ll just make my own dog yarn!
Are you saying my doodad is silly? *Some* people are very excited about it and hey, my mom even left me a comment. How cool is that?
I’m sorry to say I’m not sure Gus is appropriately fluffy for said project. I’d be happy to send you some cat hair though.
Even if it is silly, it’s the most emailed post we’ve ever had. Granted, Kate’s mom did send a good majority of them, but even without Kate’s mom sending them, I think there are enough to still be the most emailed post.
Oh my, Louie is adorable!!! I’m not really a cat person, but I totally dig the fluffy ones with curly-haired bellies.
I’m going to have to get my mom reading more often so she can pad my e-mail stats too…
Surely you know that knitting is the craft du jour, or at least is still holding its own in a big way in the crafting marketplace. I think beading is picking up speed, too–maybe bead-map wil be the next nifty crafty infodoodad. BTW, I had to e-mail this to two friends who knit and also do library techie work.Gotta have a day job to pay for all that yarn, you know.
