While Kate is quickly becoming addicted to making video games, I could easily become addicted to watching WikipediaVision’s mashup of Google Maps and Wikipedia edits. I read about WikipediaVision this morning, and I’m seriously worried I’ll do nothing else but watch WikipediaVision the rest of the day. Every time someone edits the English version of Wikipedia a placeholder pops up on the Google Map with the name of the entry that was edited, a brief description of what was changed, and the (general) location of the person making the change. What have I learned so far? That people in Saskatchewan are really invested in digging through Wikipedia, that the Kim Possible site needed to be updated, as did the Madonna concert tours listing, the botulinum toxin entry, and the Joan Collins entry. Good stuff!
Not only is this an entertaining website (okay, for geeky librarians like me), but it is a cool visual way to explain the fluid nature, and the worldwide effort behind Wikipedia.

maybe we could make a wikipediavision video game! it could be like whac-a-mole…
Alright, this thing is too mesmerizing. It’s kind of addictive. Hint: Do not think to yourself, “I wonder how long it will take for someone in Africa to make an update.” I had to give up after 10 minutes, I was beginning to worry about my sanity.
It’s tempting to start editing anonymously just so that one’s changes will show up on there.
Great find!
