Working at home this Labor Day, watching my neighbor’s Prius come and go, planting some winter veggies and getting a mega-sized dose of NPR, got me in the mindset for a green post this week. I found my dose of green in an unlikely place - a search engine called Gigablast. Gigablast has been around for several years, so they are hardly new. However, their claim to being an environmentally friendly search engine is a new twist in the searching world. What isn’t environmentally friendly about your regular search engine you might wonder? Well, search engines typically require lots of servers, which take lots of energy, which often ends up translating into coal or some other non-renewable energy source. Gigablast uses less servers, so voila! - less energy.
So, does green searching with Gigablast translate into searches that actually lead you to relevant results? Well, on a quick survey it wasn’t bad, so go a little green tomorrow and try out a Gigablast search - it’ll make you feel almost as good as riding your bike to work!

What kinds of winter veggies did you plant? I would like to take advantage of my new gardening space and have no idea what would be seasonally appropriate to put in. I could search online, but I still prefer asking questions of real people.
Onions, peas kale, and chard (and cover crop - which isn’t a veggie - but will help with next spring’s veggies). Garlic will go in on Columbus Day. We don’t go in for the hard core winter veggies like cauliflower, because we’re not patient enough.
